Last weekend we visited The British Library’s “Treasures” gallery, which is open to the public free-of-charge.  The “Treasures of the British Library” is an amazing permanent collection including Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks, Shakespeare’s manuscripts, the Magna Carta, Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (which I have to admit was fantastic), hand-written Beatle’s lyrics, early bibles, sacred texts, and more.  A must-see in London.

Also, the “Evolving English” exhibition is currently open until 3 April 2011.  This innovative exhibition explores the diversity of the English language from Old English to slang to tweets and how it is constantly changing.  A sensory-stimulating and absorbing display.

Internets

We FINALLY have internet service in our apartment.  Three Cheers!  The phone technician was here for about 5 minutes this morning and turned on our phone line (even though we don’t have an actual phone).   When he left, Kevin and I had to set up our router.  So, to sum it up—we had to wait about 30 days for 5 minutes of service that we actually had to complete ourselves.   Oh, well.  Sitting hunched over by the cold window with my mobile device plugged into my laptop was getting a bit old and painful.  I’m glad we are up and running…

Football, Soccer, Soccer, Football

On Saturday, we went to our very first football (soccer) game here in London—Chelsea vs Everton.  Even though we haven’t yet chosen a team to follow, we were cheering for Chelsea (the home team, of course) but the game ended in a 1-1 tie.  Nevertheless, we had a great time.  It was so much fun to watch as the players move the ball around so fast and all the fans (young to old) were singing cheers.  They don’t sell beer during the game (only before the game and at halftime) so fans actually watch the entire game.  Hmmm.  What a concept.  People here LOVE their football.  It’s all about the football.  Can’t wait to go to another game…maybe when it’s a tad or two warmer.
