Cartier International Polo

Cartier International Polo
This past Sunday, Kevin and I attended our first polo match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor for the Cartier International Polo.  This year Brazil faced England to compete for the Coronation Cup.  England won 8-6.

It was a great day—mid-70s with sun!  (We’ve had a long stretch of cloudy, rainy weather lately so this was a welcomed change.)  We dressed up, packed a picnic and enjoyed the experience (saw Christie Brinkley too).

Here’s the day in pictures…

Before the match began, we watched a parade around the polo field.  First came the marching band, then the young polo players and then the cutest pack of happy dogs (fox hunt?), followed by…

Jamie Cullum @ Kew the Music

Jamie Cullum

Jamie Cullum at Kew the Music

Last Friday, we saw the very talented Jamie Cullum perform at Kew the Music—an outdoor music festival at Kew Gardens.  He was fantastic!

Jamie Cullum is an English-born jazz-pop singer-songwriter.  We started listening to his music around 2002 and saw him twice in concert whilst in San Francisco—once at The Palace of Fine Arts in 2006 and once at The Fillmore in 2010.  It was amazing to see him in London—his home turf.

Kew Gardens was probably one of the best outdoor concert venues we’ve been to.  It was so pleasant to listen to great music in such a beautiful setting. (It helped that the rain held off too!)

Fireworks after the concert

The concert ended with fireworks…how fitting.

Chelsea Flower Show

Staying with the theme of nature…

Kevin and I attended the Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show last month.  Located on the grounds of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea, London, this annual festival of flowers attracts over 150,000 visitors each year, including Her Majesty The Queen.

The Chelsea Flower Show began in 1862 as the Great Spring Show.  Over the years, it has grown to become one of the most respected and most famous flower shows in the world.  It is also a top venue to watch emerging trends in garden and floral design (something Kevin and I know a lot about).

The vibrant, eye-catching colors and enchanting fragrances definitely stimulated our senses.  Mom and Marcia, you both would have loved it!  Maybe next year???

Our Day at the Royal Wedding

With a camera, water and food in tow (and the city buzzing with excitement!), we started our day at 9:15am with a quick stop in Green Park.  The City of London was kind enough to place giant screens in Green Park, Trafalgar Square and Hyde Park so those of use who weren’t invited to attend the wedding could watch it together.

After the stop in Green Park, we made our way over to The Mall via Trafalgar Square (this was a round-about way, we know, but due to all the road closures and people it really was the only way).

When we finally arrived at The Mall, the police, camera crews and spectators, (young and old alike) were ready for the show…

Warming Up

Since the best vantage points along The Mall were already taken, we decided it was best to hightail it to Hyde Park so we could actually watch the ceremony.  It was 10:20 …let the fast walking and crowd-dodging begin.

We arrived in Hyde Park in time for Kate’s arrival at Westminster Abbey at 11am. With over 100,000 people in attendance, it was an amazing and truly memorable experience.

After the ceremony, we walked around the city, snapped photos and took part in the celebrations (there might have been a couple of pub stops along the way too…just sayin’).

We eventually found ourselves at Westminster Abbey and back at The Mall where crowds were still gathered.  What a day!!!
